Article 1 – Establishment

On the occasion of the 14th edition of the Plein Air Painting Competition “Painters at the Lombard Fortress”, the Municipality of Pietralunga organises an open-air painting competition to be held within the historic centre of Pietralunga on 1 and 2 August 2026

For the 2026 edition, the theme is “Pietralunga on the Way of St. Francis”. Works must therefore draw inspiration from the places, landscapes, routes and spiritual and cultural values associated with the Way of St. Francis, as well as from the characteristic views and distinctive features of the municipal territory of Pietralunga.

Article 3 – Participation, Techniques and Formats

The competition aims to promote and enhance the historical, cultural, artistic and landscape heritage and local identity of the Municipality of Pietralunga, while encouraging artistic culture and cultural tourism.

The event seeks to foster interaction among artists, residents and visitors by encouraging the discovery of the historic centre and the most representative places of the municipality through free artistic expression.

The competition consists of the creation of a painting executed entirely within the historic centre of Pietralunga, including Piazza VII Maggio, the town walls and any additional areas designated by the organisers. The work must be created during the official duration of the event in accordance with these Regulations.

Participation is open to all Italian and international artists, with no age restrictions, subject to compliance with these Regulations

Article 3 – Participation, Techniques and Formats

Registered artists may exhibit their paintings and sculptures along the streets of the historic village of Pietralunga in accordance with the instructions provided by the organisers.

The competition consists of the live creation of a painting on canvas or another suitable support, which must be numbered and officially stamped by the organisers at the time of registration.

All painting techniques are permitted. Each participant may submit one or more supports for stamping, all of which will receive the same identification number.

Although multiple supports may be stamped, each artist may compete with only one artwork, which must be created entirely during the event.

All works must be presented framed and equipped with a suitable hanging system. They must be delivered in a condition that allows immediate exhibition and evaluation by the jury.

The artwork may bear the artist’s signature; however, for judging purposes the signature must be concealed or otherwise not visible to the jury. The identification number assigned by the organisers and the artist’s personal details must be indicated on the back of the work.

Article 4 – Competition Schedule, Registration and Award Ceremony

The Plein Air Painting Competition shall commence at 4:00 p.m. on 1 August 2026 and conclude at 5:00 p.m. on 2 August 2026.

Following the evaluation process, the jury will establish the ranking of the winning works.
